Mark Hoffmann has joined QCIF as a Senior Health Informatician to provide researchers with advice on sensitive data management and REDCap.
Mark has joined the QCIF Bioinformatics team. As well as working on projects involving sensitive data and REDCap (a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases), Mark will also join the project team behind the Secure eResearch Platform (SeRP). SeRP is a Monash University-led sensitive data platform QCIF is working on alongside other partners (see our separate article about SeRP).
“I am looking forward to applying my experience working with sensitive data and drawing upon my multi-disciplinary background to work in project development, training and data management for QCIF and its Member researchers,” said Mark.
QCIF Bioinformatics Director Dr Dominique Gorse is delighted to have an expert in sensitive data management join the team.
”Accessing and analysing sensitive data remains a bottleneck for many researchers who need to ensure that appropriate data governance and security are in place at all times. Mark brings experience and skills to guide researchers and deploy software systems to support researchers on their journey to working with sensitive data,” said Dom.
Mark was previously employed via Monash University as a database developer and systems administrator for Eastern Health.
He has practical experience with the management of large, multi-format, health data sets and the utilisation of these for research purposes by internal and external parties.
Prior to entering the health research field, Mark worked more than 10 years in Queensland state government in a broad range of research, policy and project management roles.
He holds degrees in Economics and Information Technology from QUT.
