Biostatistics and bioinformatics support for grant applications

Help with drafting grant applications

QCIF Bioinformatics provides free consultations to help researchers from QCIF Member universities draft research grant applications that include bioinformatics, biostatistics and biodata.

Examples of areas where QCIF Bioinformatics can help are:

  • Experimental design (e.g., sample size and power calculations)

  • Content and pilot analysis to include in the application.

  • Statistical/Bioinformatics Analysis methods (including clinical trials analysis plan)

  • Bioinformatics resources and compute infrastructure

  • Data Management Plan

  • Quotes for support to include in applications

Researchers can also include access to QCIF Bioinformatics staff in their grant applications to demonstrate that the project outcomes will be guided by professionally-conducted bioinformatics. QCIF Bioinformatics is structured to deliver the right amount of the right skills at the right times to maximise benefits to the research project at minimum cost.

Including access to skills in grant proposals

Researchers can include QCIF Bioinformatics in their grant applications demonstrating that the project outcomes will be guided by professionally-conducted bioinformatics.

QCIF Bioinformatics is structured to deliver the right amount of the right skills at the right times to maximise benefits to the research project at minimum cost. Quotes for on-demand bioinformatics and bio-statistics skills to be included into the grant budget will be provided based on:

  1. The number of hours for projects requiring less than 130 hours of support

  2. A fraction of a Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) bioinformatician for larger projects.

Example Quote 1

75 hours of bioinformatics support

To carry out the necessary bioinformatics analysis during the different phases of the study, QCIF Bioinformatics will provide 75 hours of support to work on the study as and when required. Skills to be provided by QCIF Bioinformatics include gene expression analysis from Next Generation Sequencing, integrative multi-omics analysis and pathway enrichment analysis.

Number of hours                                       2021 Hourly rate                            Cost ($AUD) Exclusive GST

  75                                                                     $144                                                   $10,800

Example Quote 2

Part-time biostatisticians for an ARC application

To carry out the necessary biostatistics analysis over the duration of the study, QCIF Bioinformatics will provide on average 0.2 FTE at a salary level equivalent to Australian Research Fellow Step1. QCIF Bioinformatics staff will be available to work on the study when required, providing skills associated with data analysis and statistical integration applied to the study.

  0.2 FTE                                                                                       2022               2023                2024                2025
