TYPE OF SUPPORT
Research Background
The Regenerative Vanua project aims to encourage ecological regeneration in Vanuatu through traditional, community-led practices, based on the principles and values of Vanua.
The project involves development and implementation of regeneration policies that will be adopted by community stakeholders in the Pacific, such as agricultural, ecotourism and gastronomy businesses.
In order to facilitate this program, a mobile app platform has been proposed that will allow participants to sign up, track and monitor their community's regeneration path.
QCIF Role
QCIF's Data and Software team will provide design and development support to build and deliver a mobile-first web application.
The initial purpose of this service will be onboarding participating community members to the platform, and collecting information about the participants and their site.
Later development will focus on displaying the collected data for public consumption in the form of interactive maps and charts that showcase the progress of regenerative practices.
Research Outcome & Impact
By enabling communities in the Pacific to track and visualise local and regional regeneration progress, this platform will create an incentive structure for small businesses to invest in their local community and ecosystem.
It will also facilitate public education and awareness into Pacific traditional practices for regenerative ecosystem management.

Vanuatu has become the first Pacific island country to demonstrate how regenerative agritourism is building the future resilience for its Indigenous people. Under the banner of Regenerative Vanua, one ACIAR-supported project has been globally recognised for helping to build regenerative agritourism and gastronomy experiences in Vanuatu and across the Pacific region.
