Cameron joined QCIF as a Software Developer in 2021 after a year of freelancing in the software development and bioinformatics area. He has a PhD in computational biology, giving him a strong background knowledge in bioinformatic software, genomics and the academic environment. Cameron began his studies at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where he graduated with a Masters in biological sciences in 2016. He moved to Australia shortly after to study for his PhD at UniSC on the Sunshine Coast.
Cameron made his pivot from biological research to software development during his PhD, where he built and released the online database "CrustyBase", which provides an analytical interface to crustacean transcriptome datasets uploaded by the community. He developed a passion for web development, noting its potential to communicate scientific discovery in a format that is both pragmatic and engaging.
In his spare time, Cameron enjoys baking sourdough and kayak fishing in his local rivers.
