Queensland Bioinformatics Week 2026 kicks off next week, bringing together researchers, bioinformaticians, educators, infrastructure providers and industry partners from across the state for a week of knowledge sharing, professional development and community building.

Delivered through the Brisbane Bioinformatics Initiative (BrisBio), this annual event provides a platform to showcase innovative research, develop new skills and strengthen connections across Queensland's growing bioinformatics ecosystem.

As a proud bespoke partner, QCIF Digital Research will be participating in several events throughout the week, highlighting expertise in bioinformatics, training, digital research infrastructure and capability development.

Showcase Day – Monday 13 July

Session 3: Environmental, Agricultural & Ecosystem Bioinformatics

Beyond the pipeline: building bioinformatics workflows for non-bioinformaticians

Delivered by Dr Magdalena Antczak, this presentation will explore approaches to making bioinformatics workflows more accessible, enabling researchers from diverse backgrounds to make better use of bioinformatics tools and methods in their research.

Community Event – Wednesday 15 & Thursday 16 July

Introduction to NGS and Bioinformatics Analysis (QCIF/Australian BioCommons)

Delivered by Claire Herne, this virtual workshop will run over two half-days from 1:00pm–5:00pm (AEST) and provide participants with a practical introduction to next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and bioinformatics analysis workflows.

Career & Professional Development Day – Friday 17 July

Session 2: Skills Development & Digital Research Infrastructure

Nicholas Matigian, Head of QCIF Bioinformatics, will showcase the training programs, infrastructure and support services available to researchers seeking to strengthen their computational and bioinformatics capabilities.

Nicholas will also be participating as a panellist at the "Future of Bioinformatics" and the "Mentoring, Networking & Professional Growth" sessions.

Bioinformatics Accelerator Launch

A major highlight of this year's program will be the launch of the Bioinformatics Accelerator, a new mentoring initiative designed to help researchers and PhD students build practical bioinformatics skills while progressing their own projects.

Through one-on-one guidance from QCIF bioinformaticians, participants will develop analytical capability, gain confidence in data-driven decision-making and strengthen research outcomes. The program provides a practical pathway for building bioinformatics expertise while maintaining ownership of research workflows, code and outputs.

Bringing the Community Together

Queensland Bioinformatics Week plays an important role in connecting researchers, educators, infrastructure specialists and industry leaders from across the state, providing opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from peers and build new collaborations that support innovation and research excellence.
