Ryan joined QCIF and the Sustainable Futures team in 2024. Since then, he has been the technical lead on state and national projects developing and enhancing ecological modelling tools and workflows for species management and conservation. He also plays a key role in the development, education and user support for the EcoCommons platform.
Ryan has broad experience in the environmental sciences and obtained his PhD from Griffith University, where he focused on stingless bee biology and ecology and worked extensively in the field of pollination ecology in horticultural crops.
He is interested in continuing enhancement and development of new ecological modelling tools to improve the management and conservation of the unique flora and fauna within QLD and across Australia. He is also interested in creating tools which make ecological modelling and data analysis accessible to a wider scope of user groups to better understand and preserve Australia’s ecological communities.
When not nerding out in front of his computer typing code or looking at maps, he can most likely be found frolicking in nature and getting frustrated he doesn’t know the specific bird call he is hearing from the trees nearby.
