Joanna first joined QCIF as a workshop instructor in March 2023 while completing her Master's degree at QUT. After graduating in September 2024, she transitioned into a full-time role as a data scientist and developer. Before joining QCIF, Joanna worked in cognitive neuroscience research. Her journey into data science began during her undergraduate studies in psychology, where she researched memory and aging. She went on to work as a research assistant at The Ohio State University and Duke University in the United States, managing projects on memory, cognition, mindfulness, and decision-making across the lifespan.
These experiences introduced Joanna to data science and programming. Eager to learn more, she moved to Australia to complete a Master's degree in Data Analytics from QUT, where she strengthened her skills in data analysis, programming, and machine learning.
Having started her own journey in research, Joanna enjoys supporting other researchers in advancing their work and transforming ideas into impact. She collaborates with research teams to translate study protocols into REDCap projects by designing data collection instruments and setting up workflows that ensure high-quality data capture and management. Beyond REDCap, Joanna develops custom tools and solutions to meet project needs and is passionate about using data to uncover insights, tell meaningful stories, and drive innovation.
Outside of QCIF, Joanna enjoys running, getting lost in a good book, and hunting down Brisbane's best food spots.
