William joined QCIF in March 2022 as a Biostatistician, a role he transitioned into after three and a half years of providing casual training support. During his earlier career, he worked for two years as a researcher in Colombia, followed by a period as an Econometrics Teaching Assistant at The University of Queensland from 2019 to 2021.
He earned his Master’s of Applied Econometrics from The University of Queensland in 2019, building on his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Industrial de Santander. During his time at UQ, he was recognized with the School of Economics Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2019.
William is passionate about applying his expertise to provide support for medical research data. He focuses on the composition and review of study designs, sample size calculations and statistical methods for clinical trials, and the application of appropriate quantitative methods to ensure research findings are reliable and valid; as well as contributing to authorship in papers and other dissemination products. He has expertise in statistical software such as R, SPSS, and Stata and is also a certified instructor with The Carpentries, and is committed to making complex statistical concepts accessible to researchers from all backgrounds.
Outside of work, William is an avid sports fan, a jersey collectionist, amateur cyclist, and coffee enthusiast.
