Lachlan joined QCIF as an eResearch Analyst after finishing his PhD in bioinformatics at the University of the Sunshine Coast. His doctoral research was a bioinformatics-based investigation of red algal genomics, with a focus on the red seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis, with a research focus on investigating their metabolic pathways. As part of his PhD, he also developed a red algal omics database to help advance data accessibility. Lachlan comes from a biology background, with his earlier education being in genetics and molecular biology.
Lachlan has a strong interest in utilising bioinformatics pipelines and scripting to investigate biological trends, with his favourite field being genetics and evolutionary biology. He is passionate about open access science and improving the accessibility of research and loves to present both his research work and workshops on various research skills.
Outside of work, Lachlan is an avid tabletop gamer and likes a nice mountain hike. He is also a massive foodie and loves to cook and share food with people.
