WildObs launches website to transform wildlife monitoring in Australia

The WildObs project has reached an exciting milestone with the launch of its official website, wildobs.org.au.

As part of the ARDC Planet Research Data Commons, and developed in collaboration with TERN and ALA, WildObs is set to revolutionise wildlife monitoring across Australia.

Led by QCIF, this project will provide advanced infrastructure for managing and analysing vast amounts of wildlife camera data.

The platform will feature AI-driven computer vision capabilities, allowing researchers, conservationists, and environmental managers to detect and analyse species with greater speed and accuracy. By addressing current data silos and providing streamlined access to high-quality, standardised data, WildObs will support more effective conservation strategies and biodiversity monitoring across the country.

What’s next ?

The WildObs team is hard at work building the platform's core functionalities, including a centralised image repository and an AI-powered image management system. Over the coming months, the team will focus on developing computer vision models and data-sharing integrations with platforms like ALA and TERN.

These developments will ensure that WildObs becomes the go-to resource for wildlife camera data analysis in Australia.

“We’re thrilled to reach this stage of the WildObs project,” said Dr Jenna Wraith, WildObs Project Manager at QCIF. “The new website marks the beginning of a collaborative journey that will empower researchers, conservationists, and policymakers with the tools to drive informed, data-backed decisions for Australia’s biodiversity.”

WildObs will also be represented at the Ecological Society of Australia (ESA) conference in Melbourne this December.

Come chat with the team at the QCIF booth, and don’t miss our poster in the poster session.
