Griffith University and QCIF will join forces to leverage the latest innovations in data wrangling techniques as part of a new internship project to improve decision-making for farmers.

Using national data repositories such as the Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC) Data Catalogue, Griffith University PhD candidate Ms Quynh Le Khanh Vo will work alongside Dr Sebastian Lopez Marcano, Principal Data Scientist at QCIF to enhance agricultural data analysis using QCIF’s deep research infrastructure capabilities.   

Their project will focus on integrating datasets from remote sensing, weather data, yield records, and other variables and generate novel visualisations to reveal hidden patterns and trends in crop performance, soil health, and pest management.

Aligned with QCIF’s Sustainable Futures portfolio - which focuses on advancing cutting-edge infrastructure to support research in environmental sustainability, agriculture, and urban design - this initiative represents a catalyst in modernising agricultural practice informed by research data.  

Dr Lopez Marcano expressed his excitement to work with a fellow Griffith University graduate and highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation of data scientists through industry-focused internships.

Quynh comes from the prestigious Griffith Sea Jellies Research Laboratory, where Griffith leads the development of major domestic and international initiatives. This transition reflects the enduring and productive collaboration between Griffith University and QCIF, solidifying a strong foundation for impactful research and innovation.”
