QCIF Digital Research has contributed to a major international collaboration led by the Research Data Alliance (RDA) in partnership with Microsoft, exploring the role of agentic artificial intelligence across the research lifecycle.

Launched in November 2025, the Global Community Priorities for Agentic AI in Research consultation brought together researchers from diverse disciplines and countries to examine current and emerging uses of agentic AI—defined as AI systems capable of autonomous operation with minimal human oversight.

Through online sessions delivered across multiple time zones and a community survey, participants assessed proposed agentic AI tools spanning research planning, analysis, publication and impact reporting.

Dr Moji Ghadimi, Head of Applied AI and Quantum Algorithms at QCIF Digital Research, contributed to the consultation by presenting on agentic AI systems for literature review.

Drawing on a workshop developed for Australia’s National Computing Infrastructure (NCI), he demonstrated how researchers can build a personal AI literature review agent using Python and large language models that autonomously search, read and synthesise large volumes of research literature, while maintaining essential human oversight.

His workshop addressed one of the most pressing challenges facing the global research community: managing information overload in an environment where more than 100,000 research papers are published every week.

Beyond technical capability, the session also highlighted critical considerations shared by researchers internationally, including ethics, intellectual property, privacy and the responsible use of AI with sensitive data.

Insights from the consultation will inform international community-led work in 2026 to develop an open, technology-agnostic blueprint for priority agentic AI tools.

We thank the Research Data Alliance for the opportunity for QCIF Digital Research to participate in this initiative and to showcase our expertise in this area. Supporting the development of responsible, globally aligned AI is key to our mission of enabling cutting-edge research and innovation.

About the RDA

QCIF Digital Research is an Organisational Member of the Research Data Alliance (RDA), a community-driven initiative, launched in 2013, that enables researchers and innovators to openly share and re-use data across technologies, disciplines, and countries.

With over 16,000 members, including researchers, data professionals, publishers, funders, and policymakers, the RDA reduces barriers to data exchange through collaborative groups that develop recommendations and shared infrastructure.

Individual membership is free and open to all who share the RDA's Guiding Principles.
