Introduction to Image Classification (June 2026)
Mon, 15 June
|Live, interactive workshop via Zoom.
Discover how to perform image classification using a convolutional neural network (CNN) by building, training and evaluating a model with a real set of images.

Time & Location
15 June 2026, 9:00 am AEST – 16 June 2026, 1:00 pm AEST
Live, interactive workshop via Zoom.
About the event
Image classification is a fundamental task in computer vision, a field of artificial intelligence focused on teaching computers to interpret and understand visual information from the world. Image classification specifically involves the process of assigning a label or category to an input image. The goal is to enable computers to recognize and categorize objects, scenes, or patterns within images, just as a human would. With this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to perform an image classification task using a convolutional neural network (CNN). Through coding exercises in Python, attendees will load and pre-process a set of images to build, train and evaluate a CNN to make classification predictions.
This workshop will take place over two days, Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th 2026 from 9:00am - 1:00pm (AEST). Please only register if you can fully commit to attending both 4-hour sessions.
