QCIF joins The Carpentries as silver member to boost data skills training

29 May 2025

QCIF is proud to announce it has signed a Silver Membership agreement with The Carpentries, a globally recognised organisation dedicated to teaching foundational coding and data science skills to researchers.

The new Silver Membership gives QCIF access to two centrally organised Carpentries workshops and seven highly sought-after instructor training seats.

These opportunities will further strengthen QCIF’s mission to build research capability by empowering researchers with essential, hands-on computational and data skills.

Bridging the digital skills gap in research

As research across disciplines becomes increasingly data-intensive, the need for structured, accessible, and practice-based training has never been more urgent.

“QCIF’s membership in The Carpentries reflects our commitment to delivering inclusive, impactful digital skills training,” said Danny Meloncelli, Head of Skills Development at QCIF.

“We’re excited to continue strengthening our relationship with The Carpentries and expand our instructor base to meet the growing demand across the research community.”

The included instructor training seats will enable researchers and research support staff to become certified Carpentries instructors themselves, helping to grow a sustainable, local training ecosystem.

Looking Ahead

QCIF will continue rolling out its Carpentries workshops and instructor training opportunities throughout the coming year, in collaboration with its member universities and partners.
