Dr Andrew Jones

Dr Andrew Jones has joined the QCIF Bioinformatics team as a Senior Biostatistician.

Andrew is appointed to QCIF through the University of Queensland and its Faculty of Medicine’s Research and Statistical Support Service (RASSS).

RASSS, led by Associate Professor Jason Ferris, is based at UQ’s Centre for Health Services Research (CHSR), located at Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital.

QCIF’s Head of Biostatistics, Dr Anne Bernard, said: “Andrew’s position involves identifying and gathering analysis requirements from a wide range of clinical, public health and social science researchers and delivering efficient statistical solutions to meet their research outcomes.

“He will work with leading clinicians and scientists and contribute to cutting-edge research projects.

“His ability to understand and address clinical research questions in a timely manner is valuable for all QCIF Biostatistics projects and clinic support. Furthermore, his strong background in programming in multiple languages will help researchers in the process of learning how to run analyses by themselves. His nice personality is also a great addition to the team.”

Andrew was previously a Senior Data Analyst with Queensland Health for about three years, performing data analysis on large, linked electronic health record data sets.

“I joined the QCIF Biostatistics team because I enjoy helping people with statistics and contributing to health research,” said Andrew. “I am looking forward to working on a wide variety of interesting projects with QCIF clients.”

He has a PhD in Applied Statistics from UQ, and last year completed a Graduate Certificate of Data Engineering at Australian National University.

After gaining his doctorate, Andrew worked at UQ, at first as a Research Assistant with the Centre for Advanced Imaging, and then as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the School of Mathematics and Physics.

He has also worked in data science or statistician roles focusing on energy data for companies in the private sector.

QCIF warmly welcomes Andrew to the team.
