Queensland’s critical scientific infrastructure will receive a $25 million co-investment from the Palaszczuk Government.
Queensland Minister for Science Leeanne Enoch announced the Research Infrastructure Co-investment Fund (RICF) on Wednesday, 27 February.
The funding allocation will be announced sometime after the application closing date of Wednesday, 27 March.
The RICF complements the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) funds for 2018–19 announced last May, a federal Government commitment of $1.9 billion as part of its overall Research Infrastructure Investment Plan.
To access full funding under NCRIS, facilities are required to secure co-investment commitments from state and territory governments and industry.
Minister Enoch said the RICF will be prioritised for facilities that demonstrate significant potential economic, environmental and social benefits for Queensland, including creating jobs, engaging more young Queenslanders in higher education training and work opportunities in STEM, improving the health of Queenslanders, and increasing protection of the Great Barrier Reef.
“A strong research and development capability is a critical driver for innovation in the state’s economy and will help to create the jobs of the future,” Minister Enoch said.
“Queensland facilities play a vital role in supporting the state’s research and development sector.”
