Nicko Matigian joins QFAB as a Data Analyst

Nicholas (Nicko) Matigian has joined QFAB Bioinformatics as a data analyst, specifically as a biostatistician and bioinformatician.

He will work closely with researchers, providing statistical and omics analysis expertise, to design experiments and analyse, visualise and report their research data.

For the past two years, Nicko has provided statistical support to UQ’s Diamantina Institute (DI) and other UQ researchers as part of DI’s biostatistics facility.

He has 15 years’ experience in analysing high-throughput genomic data, including gene expression, methylation, metagenomics, high-throughput mass spectrometry protein profiling and next-generation sequencing data.

For 10 years he worked in a ‘wet lab’ producing high-throughput data. This hand-on experience in experimental techniques allows him to better design, analyse and understand researchers’ project requirements.

He has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Biotechnology and Molecular Biochemistry) with Honours from the Queensland University of Technology.

His personal research interest is the characterisation of alternate cellular models to investigate the aetiology of neurological disorders.
