QCIF CEO joins AeRO as co-chair

QCIF CEO Dr Phil Gurney has joined Australian eResearch Organisations’ (AeRO) executive committee as a co-chair, alongside Council of Australian University Directors of Information Technology (CAUDIT) CEO Anne Kealley.

AeRO, an industry association focused on eResearch in Australasia, has also announced the appointment of Sam Moskwa as its new CEO.

QCIF and CAUDIT share a long history with AeRO. QCIF was actively involved (along with the other five Australian Research Data Cloud organisations) in founding AeRO in its earliest form, and both QCIF and CAUDIT have continued to support AeRO as the organisation has matured through the years.

“This is an exciting time to be in eResearch, with more and more researchers working on big data problems, and ongoing development of the plans for a national research data cloud,” said Dr Gurney. “AeRO plays a significant leadership and coordination role for the sector, and together with Anne, Sam and the executive committee we have a strong team to capitalise on the opportunities that the growth in the sector will provide.”

AeRO is uniquely positioned to coordinate discussions and activity in the Australasian eResearch space. Earlier this year, it formalised and expanded its membership offerings to include institutional members, and welcomed a number of new institutional member organisations in Australia and New Zealand.

“Both Ms Kealley and Dr Gurney have significant leadership and experience within the eResearch sector, and we look forward to benefitting from their guidance as AeRO continues to mature as an organisation,” said AeRO Executive Officer Loretta Davis.

AeRO thanked its previous CEO, Dr Markus Buchhorn, and chair, Rob Cook (QCIF’s CEO before Dr Gurney’s appointment in May this year), for their contribution to the organisation.
