High performance computing facilities are located at each of the QCIF member partners. If you are a staff member or student at QUT, Griffith, JCU, CQU, or USQ, please contact your local HPC/eResearch department initially:

The main QCIF HPC facility (Barrine) is located at UQ. It is also available to staff and research students at the QCIF member universities.

This is how you get an account on Barrine:

  • If your request is approved, an HPC account will be created for you. Your access details will be provided in a return email
  • Send an email with the subject

  • If your request is approved, a form will be emailed to you. It will allow you to get a UQ identity
  • Submit the completed form to the
    UQ ITS Service Centre (the details are on the form)
  • A UQ identity will be created for you and an email will be sent to you with the information
  • Login with your UQ identity to www.uqconnect.net/password and reset your password

After you have obtained an HPC account you are free to use and experiment with the facility.

It is important that the HPC usage is shared fairly, so if you become a significant user, we will contact you and request that you provide a project proposal. Each user, however, needs to set up an account first.
