ReDBox, originally built by USQ with an ANDS grant, is being extended into version 1.1 by CQUniversity (CQU) and QCIF with further ANDs funding. The ReDBox and Mint platforms help the research community describe and share metadata about research data holdings.
ReDBox has been designed to help medium to small universities to bring their research metadata under management meeting the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, and interfacing to Research Data Australia, the national metadata repository.
The ReDBox 1.1 project will run for 12 months and build on this foundation with goals to:
The technical team of Duncan Dickinson (project manager) and Greg Pendlebury (lead developer) are being hosted at CQU’s Brisbane offices. Since commencing with CQU, Duncan and Greg have been working to re-establish the various ReDBox technical infrastructure. The software will continue to be developed using agile methods and released under an open-source licence.
The next step for the project will be to establish a Product Reference Group initially comprising of Duncan Dickinson (CQU), Vicki Picasso (Newcastle), Nick Nicholas (ANDS) and Norm Lawler (QCIF). This group will organise project priorities and ensure that ReDBox is meeting the expectations of its user community.
Separate from the Redbox 1.1 project, QCIF will look to promote the Redbox product to the Australian research community with assistance from its interstate partners and establish a fee-based installation and configuration service and a fee-based support and maintenance service, available to those universities wishing to take up the Redbox solution.
