One-One-One

QRIScloud, the Queensland node of the RDSI project, now has 111 data storage applications. These collection storage requests add up to 5.17 Pb.

By far the greatest take up of storage has been in the environmental and biological sciences (see table). In the life sciences area, genomics data accounts for more than half of the data collections stored.

While environmental and biological sciences have dominated from the launch of QRIScloud, other subject areas are beginning to be represented. Sizeable imaging datasets are beginning to be housed, and we are starting to see uptake in the humanities – in psychology, education, language studies and history.

With our new Tier 3 data centre at Polaris now online, migration of collections from storage at our St Lucia campus data centre are underway. The St Lucia data centre provided only 1.1 Pb of storage, nowhere near the amount of storage required.

All new applications for data are being provisioned at Polaris.
