2010 Winter School in Mathematical and Computational Biology
We have been pleased to support this series of winter schools, designed to introduce mathematical and computational biology and bioinformatics to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers and others working in the fields of mathematics, statistics, computer science, information technology, complex systems analysis, and biological, chemical and medical sciences and engineering.
Each day consisted of a mixture of extended lectures, software demos, and interactive discussions. Thee lecturers, many of whom are leading national and international authorities, were selected for their ability to make their topic accessible to and exciting for a non-specialist audience. Presentations each day ranged from introductory to advanced, focusing on both mathematical and biological issues.
AMSI Winter School
Building graduate student knowledge in mathematics and computational biology
QCIF is proud once again to have sponsored the AMSI Winter Schol hosted by the University of Queensland School of Physical Sciences and Institute for Molecular Biology.
The course, which ran from the 5-16 of July, directed at post graduate students, was a great success, covering the topics of:
QCIF is actively comitted to sharing information and knowledge. In 2009 we sponsored the 6th Winter School in Mathematical & Computational Biology at the University of Queensland. The series of winter schools was designed to introduce mathematical and computational biology and bioinformatics to advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students.
In late July 09, QCIF participated in the MM2009 conference. Speakers from all over the world descended on the Gold Coast to discuss the latest developments in molecular modelling in both the life sciences and materials sciences, focusing on issues such as:
QCIF Conference booths
QCIF held a display and information booth at the MODSIM09 International Congress on Modelling and Simulation in 09. The conference hosted a rich forum for the exchange of knowledge about modelling and simulation. It addressed pressing and far-reaching issues such as water management and global change modelling.
In July 09, QCIF demonstrated the OptiPortal, in collaboration with AARnet, at QUESTnet (The Queensland Education, Science and Technology Network Conference) on the Gold Coast. This is an annual opportunity for Qld research institutions to meet and share information to advance the development and use of Information and Communications Technologies in Higher Education.
Sponsorship for Conference Attendance
Earlier in 09, QCIF sponsored QUT's Neil Kelson to visit the Paderborn Heinz Nixdorf Institute on a knowledge exchange, and to attend the ISC'09 conference in Hamburg, Germany, to meet with other world leaders in the High Performance Computing community.
